    Reminders:  The school is open at 7:55 a.m.  You may enter through the front door or the cafeteria door if you wish to have breakfast.  The bookstore is open during the mornings 7:55 - 8:20.  Students may purchase school supplies with cash or use their PROWL paws earned from exceptional behavior!

    Attention PE Students:

    PE Diaries are due every Friday with a parent signature. If you have lost your diary, please pick up  another one from the black tray near Ms. Spitz’s desk.

    The 8 week progress report will end Monday, April 29.  Progress reports will go home on Thursday, May 2.  Please sign and return to Academic Leadership teachers

    ALL SOCIAL STUDIES TEXTBOOKS AND DISCS NEED TO BE RETURNED FRIDAY MAY 3.

    Student Choice Project due May 21.  Students will present projects on Tue. May 21 and Wed. May 22.   Students will choose a country of the world to research, create a visual and then present to the class.  Students should present basic information, challenges the country is presently facing, plus the facts they found most interesting.  Possibilites for projects:  the country's flag, a map of the country (drawn, paper mache, etc.), share a popular food from the chosen country, perform  a traditional dance, a skit, dress in traditional clothing etc.,.   No powerpoints  (they have done at least two this year already).  Students may work individually, with one, two or three other students.  The only way they should work with others is if they can make arrangements to get together outside of school.

    Thursday: Final writing stage of publishing, personal narrative.

                    Begin reading "Getting Superpowers" in class.

      Week of Oct. 8-11 Changes in my world

    Monday: View changes in Toy Story and discuss changes that have occured in your life.  Springboard pages 74-79  

    Tuesday: Finish discussion of changes in our world.  Quick write: Be the change in the world you want to see.

    Wednesday: Grammar, types of sentences.  Classwork discussion of declarative, exclamatory, imperative, and interrogative sentences.

    Thursday: Literature Circles. Students have selected a group and a book to read together.  Students will assign amount of pages/chapter to read for group discussion on Thursday.

    Friday: No School   Students should read at least 30 minutes per day.

    Week of October 15-19

    Monday: Fall break no school, students should read at least 30 minutes per day.

    Introduce Holidays Around the World projects. Students were given a letter, rubric, and organizational paper today. I would like the parents to be involved witht his project by sharing holiday traditions and customs with their child. Students will do research on their country in the library two day this week.  They may research and work on project at home and at school. Holiday presentations are due Thursday Dec. 13, 2012.  Students will present during class time.  If any questions, please call Sheree Douglass at 381-3192 ext. 1153.

    Also, our visiting artist, Robert Wieckel, will be with us Wednesday Dec. 5 to work on our book covers to the student memoirs.

     Monday January 14, 2013

    Good afternoon parents, we have begun reading our class novel, The Phantom Tollbooth.  The story is about a young boy named Milo who is bored with his life.  He thinks the process of learning is a Waste of time!!! Students are reading orally, silently, in groups and listening on Audio Recording. 

    Monday 1/14  Reading in class chapters 6,7 Discussion of figurative language.

    Tuesday 1/15 Read in class chapters 8,9. Discussion of story elements.

    Wednesday 1/16 Visting Artist Robert Wieckel will be working with students on their Personal Memoir books.

    Thursday 1/17 Read in class chapters 10,11. Identify characters and settings Milo visits.

    Friday 1/18 Library Day and read chapter 12

    Good morning parents,

    Students are continuing to read The Phantom Tollbooth, our class novel for the year.  We are currently reading Chapters 18, 19, 20 for the week. There will be a quiz over the book on Friday Feb. 22.  Please have your child read at least 30 minutes per day. Have a great weeksmile

    Education Day at the Lexington Legends todaysmile The students had a great time visiting and cheering with the team.  Unfortunately, the Legends lost 4-2sad

    This week classes will be focusing on Changes in our lives. We will be reading a story, "The Fun They Had" about how technology is forever changing.

    Wednesday is our Library Day.  We will also be doing research on items that have changed over the past 5,10, 20 years.

    Thursday we will be learning about Limericks in poetry.  Poetry Slam is an activity we will be presenting May 20-21. Please join us.

    Friday classes will be learning and studying about The Kentucky Derby, the greatest 2 minutes in sports. Activities will center around the history of the Derby, Churchhill Downs, Winning Horse names.Derby Decoding activity, etc.  The Run for the Roses.
